Chairman, Al Sulaiti Law Firm
Due to the sheer popularity of sports around the world and its significance in people’s lives, governmental institutions and economical platforms, it is the norm for a lot of potential issues to arise. In this maturing industry, there is a great importance in the involvement of lawyers. The fundamental rights of all of the individuals involved in sports must be protected and checked up on to maintain a balance and protect those individuals’ commercial rights. Sports law has two main parts, a regulatory part and the commercial/financial part. Both must be in sync and regulated to enable positive and effective development in the field of sports. Other than this the field includes Contracts, Tort Law, Criminal Law, Agency, Employment Law, Antitrust, Labor Law, International Property Rights, Intellectual Property Rights, Drugs and Testing and International Regulation.
A strong presence of good governance and a clear manner to uphold the rules is required in this field. Therefore, I believe that our participation is crucial in this inaugural conference, to spread the message inviting all sports lawyers and professionals in this area of law to promote regulation, maintenance and development in the field. The conference "Mega Events in Sport: Legal Environment” is bridging the gap between the law and the science of sports. I am proud to be part of this event that is much required in the field, I hope that all those in attendance learn from different opinions and ideas put forward at the event, discuss and get involved in this interesting 48-hour period in hope for effective change in the near future.
I urge all countries that are participating in major sports events to host conferences as such empowering development in the field of sports. With the World Cup being held in 2022 in Qatar I look forward to hosting a conference dedicated to sports law in the MENA Region in the State of Qatar in the coming years. I would like to thank the Russian International Olympic University for making its contribution to the Sports Law field by hosting this very significant event.
